LT Natalie "Sheila" Ireland

Secretary / Treasurer

Lieutenant Ireland is a native of Coronado, California. She graduated from the University of California Los Angeles in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. As a walk-on to the Division 1 women’s rowing team, she competed for UCLA for four seasons and served as team captain. She continued her education at the University of West Florida to earn a Master of Science in Exercise Science while working as a Pensacola Beach Lifeguard.

Lieutenant Ireland commissioned into the Medical Service Corps in April 2018 and has since completed training at Officer Development School and the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute receiving the designation of Naval Aerospace and Operational Physiologist #357 in 2019.

Upon graduation, LT Ireland reported to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, CA where she completed her first tour at the Aviation Survival Training Center (ASTC). While at the ASTC she served as both the Maintenance Division Officer and Operations Division Officer, leading a staff of 23 Sailors and civilians and supporting 4,974 joint service warfighters. During this time, she became a certified US Navy Lifeguard, completed the Division Officer’s Leadership Course and qualified as a Technical Laser Safety Officer.

Following her tour at ASTC Miramar, LT Ireland attended Aviation Safety Officer School and subsequently reported to Training Air Wing FIVE in Milton, FL. She is currently serving TRAWING FIVE as the Aeromedical Training Program Director, Aviation Safety Officer, Aviation Life Support Systems Program Manager, Night Imaging and Threat Evaluation Lab Supervisor, Airsickness Program Manager, and the Physiological Event Rapid Response Team Lead. She supports over 1,700 T-6B, TH-57, and TH-73 aircrew across eight squadrons. She has served on two aircraft mishap investigation boards and is actively involved in the transition to the Navy’s newest training helicopter, the TH-73 “Thrasher”.

LT Ireland has logged more than 140 flight hours in eleven different aircraft type/model/series in the Navy and Marine Corps. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband Andrew, their dog Fred, and participating in various endurance sports.
