LT Tyler "Sniffles" Grubic
Nexus Assistant Editor
LT Grubic was born in Washington D.C, and has lived the majority of his life in the DC, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) area, with some time in Texas as well.
He’s been an avid athlete all of his life, which started him down this career path in optimizing human performance. LT Grubic received his B.S in exercise physiology from Old Dominion University in 2012. He began training athletes professionally upon graduation, and trained many high school, professional and Olympic athletes.
LT Grubic then went on to receive his M.S in exercise physiology from The George Washington University in 2015. At GWU he was a strength & conditioning coach for the university as well as their exercise physiologist who performed metabolic and athletic testing for athletes and ran the high performance lab. At the end of his GWU tenure, LT Grubic began to train for the USA Bobsled team and was excited about potentially being an Olympian himself, until he heard he got into the Texas A&M University’s (TAMU) Ph.D. program.
With his Olympic dreams forever on hold, he completed his Ph.D. at TAMU in exercise physiology in 2018 where he was a research assistant in the Exercise & Sport Nutrition Lab (ESNL), sport scientist, and teaching assistant while completing his studies. He was immediately hired upon graduation as a visiting professor at TAMU, where he taught undergraduate and graduate level courses and ran studies for the ESNL, until his commissioning into the U.S Navy. LT Grubic was commissioned in 2019, and winged NAOP #367 after completing Aeromedical Officer (AMO) Training in Pensacola, FL and an abbreviated flight syllabus in the T-6B and TH-57B/C aircrafts. Since then, LT Grubic has gone on to fly in the H-60R/S, F/A-18, H-1, B-25J, P-8A, T-38, C-37B, KC-130, and V-22.
LT Grubic is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a Tactical Strength and Conditioning-Facilitator (TSAC-F) through the NSCA and a Certified Sports Nutritionist through the ISSN (CISSN). He actively publishes in the NSCA, JDS and JATA scientific journals, the society of the US Naval Aerospace & Operational Physiologist (SUSNAOP) newsletter NEXUS, and serves as an assistant editor for SUSNAOP. LT Grubic keeps himself busy by competing in jiu-jitsu, bow hunting, and exploring the wilderness with his wife, son and dog.
